A proposed 12-story mixed-use development at the corner of Milwaukee and Logan Boulevard is drawing fierce opposition from Logan Square residents who say the project is out of scale with the historic boulevard neighborhood.

The developer, Inland Properties, is seeking a planned development designation and a zoning change from B3-2 to DX-5 to build 180 market-rate apartments above 8,000 square feet of retail. The site currently holds a two-flat and a single-story commercial building.

More than 150 residents packed a community meeting Thursday at Humboldt Park Fieldhouse, with the majority speaking against the project. Critics cited concerns about shadow impacts on Logan Boulevard's landmarked greens, displacement pressure on existing renters, and the precedent it would set for other large-scale developments in the area.

The project requires approval from Ald. Jessie Fuentes (26th), who has not yet indicated her position. A formal zoning hearing is scheduled for April 22nd.
